What an absolutely amazing day to be photographing in Salcombe and Hope Cove, Devon. I travelled down with good friends for John’s birthday party. John had booked a cottage for a week and it included a real fire! We arrived in Hope Cove to try and find John (with poor phone signal). Eventually, we had lunch with John at a pub and then back to the house and a walk down to Salcombe estuary which was spectacular! Brilliant food to share and then the usual fab party games that John came up with! Such a gorgeous day! Here are a few photographs I took.

Rod and Ben’s Seasonal Organic Soup | Cafe Ode Shaldon
Wow! Rod and Ben’s Seasonal Organic Soup at The Cafe Ode Shaldon. What a wonderful opportunity to combine two things I love. Working as a photographer – which is my passion and my love of all things organic! We set off on an amazingly sunny day from Rod’s beautiful organic farm set in the rolling Devon countryside to take photographs at The Cafe Ode Shaldon. I love Shaldon – I lived there as a child. Everyone was in good cheer and it was great to meet The Cafe Ode owner Tim and all the staff who were super helpful. Rod and Ben’s Soup fits in exactly with the whole ethos of The Cafe Ode which has won awards for its regional produce and sustainability! This is their second year winning the Food For Life Catering Mark Gold, from the Soil association no less. After the photography bit was done I had the pleasure of sampling the delicious RodandBen’s soup. Yummy good! I had tasted their houmous a while ago and its the best I’ve tasted…Here are a few of the photographs from the morning.
Killerton Gardens | Alfie + Elsie
Another wonderful and fun afternoon with Alfie, Emily and Elsie at Killerton today! Lovely to see Mum and Amy too…Here are a few photographs. For the rest of the pics go to the family gallery. 🙂
Alfie’s 3rd birthday
So, it was Alfie’s 3rd birthday on 21st March. He had a party the day before in Silverton with a bouncy castle at The lamb. What fun and great games to play. Alfie was soon excited and it was a perfect day! Lovely to see everyone! He had a little get together on his actual birthday with more pressies. It was lovely seeing his excitement – he is just the most beautiful little boy! Here are a few pics from the days. The rest are on the password protected gallery.
Boat Building Academy | Winter Launch
I just love the Boat Building Academy winter launch! Especially with the crispness of a winter day. The students of Class March 2015 were busy making getting the boats ready when I arrived. As usual there were some beautiful boats built. Only two boats were launched this time as the other two weren’t quite finished. Those launched were an 18’7 cold moulded and bright finished Robert Steward motor launch and a 16’ traditional clinker Iain Oughtred Norwegian Faering. The other two were a Strip planked, gaff rigged replica of a Herreshoff 12 ½ and a 22’7 glued clinker double ended Iain Oughtred ‘Kotik’ with a two berth cabin.
Students come from all over the UK and overseas and from a range of ages and backgrounds – many of them had never picked up a chisel before! Following an intensive woodworking foundation phase the class have learned to build boats to professional standards using modern and traditional construction methods.
The students have graduated with the skills needed to work in today’s marine industry certificated by the City & Guilds level 3 diploma in Marine Construction, Systems Engineering and Maintenance.
These are some of my favourites but for the full gallery please see the Students gallery here:Students Gallery

Secret World Wildlife Rescue
Got a call this week from Secret World Wildlife Rescue to pick up a Carrion Crow from an Exeter vets. I am a volunteer response driver and it is such a great opportunity to help an injured animal by driving them to SWWR. As it is a bit of a drive I took the opportunity of going on the feeding round with some of the people that work there. Hope you enjoy the beautiful residents that were being fed that afternoon.
Testing The Water | at Exeter Quay
What a suburb day it was for “Testing The Water” at Exeter Quay – Exeter City Council has appointed consultants Exterior Architecture to produce a master plan for the Riverside & Ludwell Valley Parks. The need for this plan is driven largely by housing growth. The resulting increase in population has an indirect impact on the Exe Estuary, which is a protected European wildlife site.
One of the elements of the mitigation strategy is the enhancement of alternative natural greenspace, and the Council has identified these two Parks for this purpose. We need to make the Parks more attractive for people, particularly those walking the dog, thus taking pressure off the estuary and its wild bird populations.
Simon Bates from ECC organised the day with Suzanne Heath, Project manager of Ginkgo. We kicked off with a short speech outside tent by Deputy Lord Mayor, Councillor Lesley Robson. Passersby came along and put their mark on the on the map ‘Planning for Real’ – where they’d like to see certain activities or changes.
Great activities included Magical moths and looking at crickets and a bug hunt with John Walters as well as drawing and painting. Children made seed bombs with Spacex and we had a couple of fab bike forages with Anne-Marie Culhane.
There was a chance to have a go on the Apple press and there was also ‘Bike smoothies’ with wild autumn fruits. Fruit & veg stall – delicious, fresh produce from the allotment growers next door – an honesty stall and Alexei from The Hall Exeter organised the Pecha Kucha talks in the marquee which were fabulous!
Med Theatre Dartmoor | Butter-Girls
Always a great pleasure and creative joy to be the photographer for Med Theatre Dartmoor. We went up to Bellever on Dartmoor to photograph some pre-production shots for their upcoming production. The play is a promenade play about the history of Central Dartmoor, beginning with the Bronze Age. The pre-shoot was focusing on a scene about Saxon Dartmoor, when so-called ‘butter-girls’ pastured their cattle for dairying on Dartmoor’s summer grass – although there was always a threat from the Vikings. Here are some of my favourites.
Shadow Walk on Dartmoor
Always a great pleasure to work with Med Theatre. This was a publicity photoshoot for an upcoming production – The Walk Dance Drama. The shoot took place on Dartmoor on a bright sunny day with lots of shadows and high contrast…usually a photographer’s nightmare! But this time the choice was deliberate – to photograph three young dancers with the sun casting shadows. Fabulous afternoon with lovely people. These are some previews of my favourite photographs.
The first performance will be at Bridford Woodland Trust Amphitheatre on August 1st at 4.00pm.
BBA Boat Launch | Lyme Regis
Another gloriously sunny day for the BBA boat launch in Lyme Regis for the Class of September 2014. The students of The Boat Building Academy launched eight boats on Wednesday 10th June, each built as part of their intensive 38 week training, into Lyme Regis harbour.
The boats were walked from the Academy’s workshops on Monmouth Beach to the slipway at Lyme Regis harbour, where champagne corks popped as the boats slid into the water for the first time. Gail McGarva (BEM) was there in her waders, as were friends and family of the students, Academy graduates, representatives from the marine press and industries and the people of Lyme Regis.
Boats launched were a 22’ Nordlands boat, 20’ Seabird Half Rater (the oldest one-design class boat still sailing), 15’2 Iain Oughtred ‘Whilly Tern’, 14’ faering, 13’ Iain Oughtred ‘Acorn Skiff’, 12’ Andrew Wolstenholme ‘Mallard’ dinghy, 18’ Guillemot ‘Night Heron’ kayak and the restoration of a 10’ traditional clinker dinghy named ‘Swallow’, believed to have been originally built by Naval apprentices.
Here are some previews of my favourites from the day. and this is a link to the main Gallery: June 2015 Launch
